Default AirTran and ALPA question

Hey AirTran guys,
Can I ask why AirTran pilots chose ALPA over teamsters or other unions?
I would think ALPA is a much better choice, in my oninion. But I would like to hear other opinions on why this was pefered and relay this information to my fellow coworks. Thanks

They wanted to park their 717's and give the flying to RAH. ALPA is down with SCOPE!!!

If ALPA doesn't work out you can still, with a majority vote, get rid of them. Unlike IBT where they'll come to your house and break your legs of merely uttering the words.

ATA voted out IBT in 1999 and switched to ALPA in one fell swoop. Made fantastic strides in the '02 contract. Didn't work out too well did it?

I think it is a 60% or 2/3 vote to decertify...easy to get in, hard to get out.

Yep, that was ALPA's fault.

Incorrect. You can start a decert drive with 35% of the pilot group signing cards and then a simple majority can vote to decertify.

AirTran pilots favored ALPA in my opinion because the IBT simply doesn't specialize in representing pilots and our independent union was a mess. I think you'll find that most pilots have been very happy with the decision so far. It's a 10 fold improvement after just the first couple of months.
