The details will be interesting. What will the priority of those passes be?

Didn't Independence try this for students... right before they went bankrupt?

Given that the article says jetBlue will charge a $100 change fee for a booked flight, I doubt it's a standby pass.

It will be standby hell for those of us who rely on JB to commute to work

...oddly enough, the article talks about this point.

It's not standby, but you have to book within three days of departure. So it's pretty close to the bottom of the barrill.

The fees and taxes should also be eye-opening...

Someone will try to use it for a regular commute, but will find that X % of the time, no seat is available. Ooops! "...But for $400, we can get you there on Monday morning..." They'll get mad. Schedule for Tuesday. Take Delta Monday, thereby no-showing on JB Tuesday. Ding! $100 fee, pass invalid.

Etc.

Sounds potentially like a pretty smart gimick to me. Lots of buzz. More revenue. Good on them for trying something.

A promotion like this will attract throngs of frequent flyers on the east coast. It's a reasonable guess that frequent flyers will want to travel at peak times between popular city pairs. If bookings are not available the "unlimited monthly bookings for $599" will lose it's appeal as there are only "x" number of seats in the market. The alternative is to heavily overbook the flights, that's what I meant by standby hell (Booked to 120% LF and everyone shows up!)

It's great marketing and should do wonderful things for Load Factors, just book all of your seats early!

Perhaps but unlike many other carriers you still have 5 jumpseats on the airbus. You can't blame JetBlue trying to fill seats during a quiet period. Perhaps we can get Richard Branson to pay for empty seats between SFO-FLL.
