Getting hired by a major with previous employ
Hello all,
Everyone knows the way to get your foot in a door with a major amongst all those RJ captains is to have a "silver bullet", i.e. knowing a pilot who can walk your resume in, etc. But in general, how much does being previously employed at the major carrier in another capacity, such as a flight attendant, help?

If you were a good employee and left on good terms, it's golden. To the company, you're already a proven, know commodity. I know several pilots who have gotten hired who used to be mechanics, FAs, etc.
The flip side is that if you have a blemish on your employee record, you're hosed. That happened to a buddy of mine.
If you go down that road, be sure to keep your nose clean.

I know what you are going through. I'm a furloughed pilot and I'm now at big D working hard out there in the elements and hoping to get into a cockpit again once hiring resumes.
I agree with what Upndsky says that as long as you do good work and keep yourself out of trouble you will have a good shot.

Exactly, and if you are an internal transfer here at DAL, (ie go from ramp to flight deck. This would mean working as a pilot at a commuter and a ramper at the same time) you go to the front of the class. All of the internal employees go ahead of all of the new employees.
It happened many times here at DAL. SO Mc if you have 500 PIC 121 Turbine, you might want to look at that.

Hi ACL,
Thanks for the comment, I do have more than the required minimums for DAL. Last time I checked the logbook, I think it was almost 3000 Turbine PIC on 135 and my last 121 before I landed here at DAL.
From what I have been told so far, I may have a good chance once the current environment improves. I love being at the new DAL and I think things will eventually turn around but at a very slow pace.
