But after looking at all the charts it does appear the 737-700 has very similar overall landing distance when compared to the 757 - probably because of lower reference speeds, so it should be ideal for Key West. Besides, there is 10,000 feet of Navy concrete about 3 NM away for a divert. Fly Navy!

I've been flying the 700 into SNA the last few months. The carbon brakes are awesome. Complete stops by midfield. I don't see any problem whatsoever with going into Key West. Fly Air Force!

I was there in 85, 86 and 87 when it was still called Palmerola. We lived in tents at first then upgraded to Vietnam style hootches. Good times. Didn't see any C-5s at the time but plenty of 130s, 141s and Southern Air Transport L-100s.

I was flying the C-141 in there during those years Lloyd. I remember the tents and the hootches. It was a good time.

I'm no engineer but to my knowledge and according to my 737 company, carbon brakes provide no increase in braking efficiency, at least not enough to change the performance numbers on a 737. The benefit comes from increased takeoff performance and reduced fuel burn due to a decrease of nearly 700 lbs in TOW vs standard steel brakes....also, the increase in carbon cost vs normal brakes allows them to show us empty pockets at pay time, giving management yet another reason to pay pilots less. Brilliant!!!

More load, means more income...give me the carbon over steel any day.
