I disagree about the statement “now worthless”. With your experience and exposure to the industry you have a lot to contribute to tyros who are interested in flying. Perhaps you could relate your experiences, both highs and lows. You could also aver the importance of having a back plan… sort of an escape route if the aviation route does not work be it as a result of a furlough, or just plain being fed up with the industry.

With that being said, your loss can truly be someone else's gain.

Perhaps if there were one strong national union as opposed to separate local type individual airline unions... Bottom line you have a better chance of seeing the sun and moon rise out of the west before that happens.

A back up plan is a good thing to have however in my estimation anyone who has a good way out eventually will take it. Therefore a having good back up plan is like a death sentence to a flying career. Eventually everyone will hit a ruff patch and take the exit.

Perhaps a prospective pilot should just save the heart ache and go straight for the back up plan.

The whole point of the original post was saying capitalism caused all those problems: LCC's, furloughing, greedy executives, outsourcing of jobs. Capitalism is not working with the airlines. If regional pilots want long term careers at a mainline airline then airlines will need to be re-regulated or forget it. Until then, mainline flying jobs are doomed as the outsourcing, undercutting, and whipsawing continues. Capitalism, if you answered capitalism you were correct.
