12 Delta North pilots vote to keep Compass part of the MEC.
13 Delta South pilots vote to "transition" Compass to their own MEC.
I hope all Delta pilots like seeing endless rows of their airplanes being flown by subsidiaries and fee for departure carries.
Lee Moak and his constituents we're adamant about getting rid of Compass for they are not about to spend negotiating capital on a subsidiary.
The DAL south team also is afraid of a lawsuit from Compass because they cannot let go of the RJDC incident with COMAIR.
This recommendation will go the the National Executives for a final decision, but given the past history of this union we know where this is going to go.
The LEC elections are due in several DAL North and South bases and this vote was passed by senior members of DAL South MEC before more junior members who would have to live with these results as junior representatives had a chance to be elected.
NWA pilots vote to form Compass, but keep it close in order to prevent further scope erosion, and the Delta South folks just gave it away. When will they learn.
I would not put too much blame on the 13 South guys or Moak in particular. They clearly do not have time to worry about each pilot individually or the pilot group as a whole so its best to focus on one thing at a time. What Moak would like...

Learn what? Not to create subsidiaries that handle your replacement narrow-body flying, or not to keep the resultant entity on your MEC?
I don't believe that we should have Compass on our MEC, not as Compass anyway. There are two strategies to approach scope: attempt to "force" (negotiate, really) a merged operation with DCI carriers, or attempt to fight any outside party gaining access to our flying. The first appeals to me most, because it is more noble, but it is also the least realistic.
Its interesting that Dalpa doesn't want to keep Compass close considering that, due to things out of our control, Compass could be completely staffed by Delta pilots. How'd that work out for Midatlantic flowback pilots?

I wasn't sure. Makes the perspective easier to understand. I don't mean it invalidates it, or allows me to dismiss it. I would not be happy. Not surprised, but not happy.
I'm not sure I wanted immediate resolution on this, and I'm quite positive I'm not happy about not being consulted. I don't know that the end result would have been different if I were king, because it's not clear to me how we would force an opertaional merger.
If you need to be walked through these simple principles, then we are in trouble.
This move weakens unity at a time when ALPA claims to be taking it back. This is not taking it back, it is giving it away.
mynameisjim has a very good point. Think about the US Airways guys that went to Mid Atlantic. Aren't some of them still Teamsters pilots at Republic?
What if Compass decided to leave ALPA (hope not).... now all of a sudden Delta flowbacks are no longer ALPA pilots. I would like to think Moak and Delta South considered this.... or maybe they were just thinking about the senior half of the pilot group. That wouldn't surprise a lot of us. DALPA= a captains union.
While the flowthrough/back is not in jeopardy, it annoys me to no end that they want to kneejerk and give up the CPZ guys- even though they do not want to be seperated (except 1 bad apple).
I'd much rather keep the CPZ guys very close under our wing. Afterall, they are simply DAL pilots in waiting. ..... and us junior guys are CPZ pilots in waiting.
**** poor decision caused by an overly cautious attitude. I foresee this one coming back to bite us.
