On saturday in Tulsa, OK my dad was trying to Non-rev to Detroit after visiting some family there. The weather there had been pretty bad, and flights were full all day, oversold flights, etc.... The chances of a non-rev getting on a flight that day were slim to none. Well my dad hung in there like a trooper and got bumped and bumped, until finally the last flight was about to leave there was just him and a NWA pilot in street clothes at the ticket counter and the agent asked if he'd take the jumpseat so my dad could make it home that night. The pilot flat out refused and my dad said he was acting like a child about it and was also disrespectful to the gate agent, and took the seat in the back, which was his right. This negativity caused by this one individual caused my dad to get stuck in Tulsa for an additional 2 more days. This type of attitude and action has no part in this industry especially on a 1 hour flight. Holy smokes you have to be in the jump seat for an hour you tool. I am not bashing on Northwest airlines pilots, but individuals of all airlines that act this way. I really wish my dad would have gotten his name, and I could have taken care of it through my jumpseat chair. I always volunteer my seat if gate agents need it to get a non-rev on, no matter what the circumstance. I just could not believe that story when my dad told me about it tonight. People with little d**k syndrome really need to re-evaluate themselves and due us all a favor. I know 99% of you all out there would have done what I would have done, but I just can't get over the fact that this guy was such a baby about riding in the jumpseat for an hour. I am done ranting for now....I appreciate the rest of you pilots who have taken the jumpseat when didn't have to...cheers to you!!
thats lame, I've taken the jumpseat many times to enable an extra non-rev to get on. For most of us thats just common courtesy. Sorry to hear that about your dad.

+1 Count another NWA commuter guy that does what ever it takes to get all nonrevs on. Tell your dad sorry..........been there.

id do it for another pilot, not another non-rev. not talking personally about your dad when i say this, but do you think a non-rev would give a damn about bumping you, even if you were trying to get to work? think about it, i know they wouldnt.

I don't really have any sympathy for people non-revings these days, although I do try to help out when I can. The thing is, why are people going out with the flights so full? Either the employee is sending them in to the wolves, or they just plain don't check loads.

It comes down to class my friend. It's not about what others would do or what you can do it's about doing good towards others. Those other nonrevs may not think about it but next time that may be your parent, what would you want the pilot to do then?

Unbelievable.
I cannot disagree more with your rationalization of bad behavior. I agree with Ferd and 2Co2Fur1EXwife. I'll do whatever it takes to get all non-revs on. Those travel privileges mean the world to my dad. Those pass riders are the family of the people that make your job possible, like the agents, ramp guys, flight attendants and mechanics.
It's no wonder pilots get such a bad rap when comments like this are posted on a public forum, and then we're seen ripping into agents for not getting us on airplanes when jumpseating. Good goes around...

Not everyone has the option of checking out loads on the pax carriers so that's a lame excuse. As far as the NWA pilot screwing out 310's dad for the pax seat (on such a short flight...) that sux, and is kinda cold! I mean come on! I have had NWA guys in the past give up the j/s and (ride in the back on pass to) allow me to go, so I know there are good guys out there. This just shows you there's always a rotten apple in the bunch! Sorry to hear this...
