I would agree with the OP. This was a quiet place at the beginning of 08, and it seemed to have a more professional tone than say Brand FI (that place has completely lost relevance, imho).
Some of the owner's group boards (CPA, etc) are far more information oriented. I have found that the boards whose founders take a personal and direct interest in running it are more professional (PPW is a good example). Of couse, a fee also weeds out the trolls and losers.

These message boards only reflect our profession....Why did long time TWA pilots get stapled below fairly new American pilots? How about the USAir/AWA debacle? Between the assinine "career expectations" argument, major/regional apartheid, "stealing of flying" and no transportability of longevity, it's a wonder we do as well as we do....
These issues create a lot of "friction" among "brothers". If you are going to claim that regionals are less safe, then you better not land a 767 on a taxiway......
Agreed. My point, more specifically, is how all sides are guilty of "mud-slinging". Some threads remind me of the food fight scene from Animal House.
"But I would bet that the former owners/creators either don't ban people as much as they used to or they CAN"T ban people as much as they used too since the value of an advertisement space is based on the amount traffic on the website."
I'd take that bet.
The best thing users can do to keep the site civil is report TOS violations via the report post feature. This allows the mods to see the post and take action, if necessary.
I would guess based on many years of jumpseating that the vast majority of airline pilots are good natured, educated professionals. I also believe that most people realize that anonymous forums don't always draw out the best and/or brightest (present company excluded of course).
Anonymous forums are definitely a place for people to vent their frustrations and anger. Overall, through all the chaff, I've garnered a lot of information here. I know that most of you are decent professionals that I could count on if need be.

Good luck and May the Profession Return!

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. It is so easy to misread comments or intentions on the internet - one can only convey so much outside of actual verbal communication. But, I think the key is to not take anything personally and be able to separate the you-know-what from the shinola. And of course, find the humor in all of it.
