Through all the mud-slinging, there are still diamonds in the rough. During the Colgan discussion, there was a good deal of arm-chair QB'ing. One of the theories put out was 'a tail stall due to ice'. Now, ultimately, that appears to be a complete dead end (thank you NTSB). None the less, it elicited a good discussion here about aerodynamics and tail stalls. The resources of NASA were shown to be quite informative and useful to the professional pilot community (NASA has a great video on tail stalls, for instance. I didn't know about it until someone linked to it from this forum). I'm a better pilot for it, and I believe others on this forum are too. All from some good old fashioned BS'ing on the forum - modern hanger flying, if you will.
The Fed Ex pilots have used this forum to educate on issues, and to organize support. At least two of the (former) most prolific posters on the cargo forum are now Fed Ex MEC members, and, arguably, the Fed Ex pilots are better for it. It's easy to trot out your opinions and vet them here anonymously. If they gain traction, maybe you should consider voicing them in real life. If they're shot down, there's usually a good reason (and then everyone piles on for good measure

).
This board still has relevance. It is like a pilot union - it's only as strong as the membership; we are APC. As individual contributors, we must take ownership of the issues and fix them, rather than looking to the leadership (moderators) for solutions.
