Default Apparently flying drunk is no big deal?!

Drunk Pilots Escape Discipline

Interesting read, and shocking at the same time.

If they are long haul flights I'm sure they sober up in time for landing

Hell, if you'd ever flown on Air India, you'd understand why they fly drunk. Some years ago I decided to get adventurous on my last trip as a crewmember on the Airbus A-300. The trip started with a deadhead from Memphis to Mumbai, followed by about 24 hours off, then operate to Bangkok for 3 days off, then back to Mumbai for another day off, then back to Bangkok, with some time off and then a deadhead back to the States. You can see why I did this trip. Anyway, I decided to fly Air India. First of all, (back then) you couldn't just go on-line and purchase a ticket. You had to find one of the few companies (here in the States) that was authorized to sell AI tickets. Having done that, I paid with my credit card and a week later the tickets arrived. I was flying JFK-BOM direct. When I boarded, I was the only one on the entire upper deck (except the pilots). It was a 747-200 (I think), with a serial number of 000.5. Easily the oldest plane I'd ridden in since my days in Viet Nam, flying around on AC-47's. Everything about the jet was old. No electric outlets, bad cushions, and the silver movie screen was a urine yellow. Yeah, it was some trip. However, the food was prepared on a burner, right in front of you. Very neat. No beef, so I had the chicken.

You were lucky to have a burner to have your food cooked on. Today we use the coffee pot warmers to heat our food in flight!

Didn't this cause an L1011 to burn to the wheel hubs in Saudia Arabia back in the 70's or 80's?

Don't know. Don't care. It made the food really good, on a flight where there were no other amenities. Sometimes you just gotta say "what the hell."
