I have not been in the cockpit for a while but doesn't rvsm require that an airplane has an autopilot with yadda yadda installed and working? It does not say it has to be on does it? I have not flown an airplane in anger for more than a year now.

Don't forget to add a pay cut to subsidise the cameras..

Cops do the majority of their work outside in front of the car. It wouldn't make sense to point the camera at the seat. It would just record how great the seats of a 1997 crown vic are while the cop catches a fist in the face from some drugged up toothless wonder.

Not trying to split hairs and I don't have the regs in front of me, but I think "installed and working" implies that they want it to be used. I know if we have the A/P deferred we are unable RVSM...I think the same applies to aircraft without A/P's.

I believe that our FSM says the A/P must be engaged for operations in RVSM airspace. So depends on your companies/aircraft RVSM certification.

I agree, but the thing is that operating a complex machine like an airplane could bring a whole new deal of debate about pilot decisions and procedures. Everyday thousands of pilots make decisions that could fall "outside" the book, but we do it in the interest of safety (speaking for myself here haha). Off course... a "suit" seating behind a desk may disagree.

Camera in the cockpit won't happen, period. Let me put it this way, if we as pilots nationwide let that happen, we don't deserve to be flying an airplane, we would be a bunch of retarded flying buses drivers....

Nationwide strike of all airlines before that bill passes...

It's one thing to change a few rules. Quite another to redesign equipment. Consider the fact that we still communicate via AM analogue radios while nearly every other analogue VHF communications systems in the world left AM long ago for FM. No, I wouldnt worry over the camera idea any time soon.
They could easily adapt one of the many systems already in place in military aircraft. I have cameras in my cockpits to record my displays. Those cameras could easily be moved to film the entire cockpit. I agree with the testing and the such and such - but if they wanted it bad enough then it could be done quickly. One thing to ask yourself though - what are you doing in the cockpit that you are afraid of people seeing? This same argument was use I'm sure when people first started talking about CVRS and FDRs.
