I had a short conversation with a regional pilot in an airport terminal today.
He asked me about the possible hiring and we talked for 5 minutes. Nothing official, rumors etc.
Then he fired - "you, guys, have such low minimums so that sons and nephews can get hired and since my dad is not a Delta pilot I don't have a chance, right?"
I was taken back by such anti-authority attitude.. Why are the young people now have such low self esteem and think that they can't achieve anything without parent's (or government's) help? Did liberals totally destroy the country of opportunities?
I said: "I disagree, my Dad is not a pilot at all and I didn't have any letters of recommendation.
If you have 4K hours it is only going to look better than 1200, isn't it?
The mins are low so Delta can attract military pilots to apply. Young, with good experience, huge potential and who have gone through selection of the military not "at you will" training of the civilian route and no selection to speak of".
I hope it didn't sound rude, but I believe it is the true reason of having low minimuns.
I also want to add that Delta (any other airline for that matter) seeks to hire people who achieved something, not the ones who just laid on the couch, surfed forums and flew same airplane in the same area for 10 years.
That "something" could be a home owners association president, a fighter pilot, a track and field or chess champion, commanding a platoon of US Marines or running a small business etc, etc, etc.
Show on your application that you have done something with your life - and you will get the interview.
Is Delta still using "Airline Apps," or have they switched to a Delta career website for pilot applications? Will my Airline App data transfer automatically to the Delta website? Thanks for any insight
I don't have any inside scoop, but it seems that Delta is still using Airline Apps for the process. If I remember from the last time, you can create a free Airline Apps account to apply to Delta, or if you've paid the money to Airline Apps, you can add Delta to the list of airlines you are applying to, and your information does not have to be reentered.
When I applied in 2007, there was a supplemental section for Delta where they asked you some additional questions.
AirlineApps doesn't charge for updates, so update often. And triple-check your application and hours - the best part of my interview was was when the guy comparing my logbook to my application said, "well, everything looks in order here - good job - lets move on."

I have heard people with that attitude also. You'd actually be surprised how many people don't apply because they don't think they have a chance. I had 3 people call me about hiring at DAL yesterday. 2 of them never applied before just because they thought there was no chance at getting hired without knowing anyone. I got in with zero internal recs.
The Delta website says they are using AirlineApps for applications, and it also states that they are not actively hiring and will not be reviewing applications until hiring resumes....for whatever that is worth.

yes you're right, the point is that they're ACCEPTING apps again where they werent until recently. No one has said we're hiring, the story is about the change in status of the site.

Unbelievable!!
I think the real problem is that those folks who couldn't get hired spread untruthful or exaggerated information.
The word is APPLY, also I learned later - LOR's don't have to be from DAL pilots or even DAL employees.

Glad this thread is finally getting into the most juicy gossips of it all, HIRING!
Word of advice. Talking to one of the retired guy that "picked" apps from cabinets of applications during the last hiring period. If by luck or by "pull", your apps get look at, it has to be free of error whatsoever. That includes your flight log.
Also, airlineapps is free. And if you don't mind doing a bit of copying and pasting, you can create different user id for different airlines to keep it free. (Not that there are many other airlines out there are hiring)
