Default Alaska MEC War?

Just out:
*****************************
Today’s Special MEC Meeting began at 1 p.m. this afternoon and concluded at 7 p.m. this evening. After a discussion that lasted several hours over the sole agenda item of the disposition of the MEC Chairman, a motion was introduced for the recall of the chairman. That motion was eventually tabled by a split vote, and the meeting was then adjourned.

A more detailed account of the meeting will be provided to you shortly.

****************************

Anyone have any info? I'm guessing the troops don't like the hostel takeover of the union by the SEA MEC.

Baja.

I believe the small base LECs are upset about their F/Os being totally disenfranchised. Rightly so...

Why on earth would you post this? It is internal business and not the concern of any people on the outside. It does not effect them and they have no influence on it. We have internal boards if you have questions or input.

I believe it does concern others on this board. The marching orders are coming from National. We are the test monkeys for this. National wants to restructure the way they do business. This includes things at the MEC/LEC level. We are the smallest of the big airlines. Try it on us first and see what needs to be tweaked.

Seniority block representation. IMHO, best way to do it and FDX has it now. Those guys seem to REALLY like how they are represented.

That's complete BS. This was desired by a majority of Alaska pilots. It has nothing to do with National driving any agenda.

just to clarify...the change was desired by the majority of the SEATTLE Pilots. Being the largest group, they get their way. It was not desired by the majoity of the smaller base pilots.

It really doesn't matter who wanted what. Its a done deal and we have to live with it.

Read the Weighing In article by Paul Rice in the the last ALPA mag. Half way through he all but spells it out for you. The majority of pilots here were not in favor of block rep. either. It didn't go out to vote and SEA had to do 4 roll call votes. That hardly sounds like the majority wanted it. It sounds as if someone said make this happen. If they don't like it then shove it down their throats. But what do I know I'm only a 10 year FO in a small base.

Agreed. Why else would they call for the recall of the MEC Chairman? If you are going to completely restructure the way the LEC's & MEC do business FOR the benefit of ALL pilots, how can ONE base force their agenda? On the other hand, if you have three bases that don't like the way SEA LEC is doing business they could block w/ their votes. I think all was ok when they had LAX & ANC voting one way and SEA the other...But now that you add PDX their is clearly an advantage to the smaller bases if they were to join together. I'm not sure of the right way to do it, but what just got shoved down the throats of the LEC's isn't the way to go.

Baja.

BTW - An ALPA memo isn't internal mail, neither is a mass email from VP of flt ops or the pres...ease up.
