Really, I am not looking forward to the merger headaches, but good grief - ATL, MEM, LGA, BOS, DCA, plus near international - you won't see any furloughs out of this for pilots. With something like 60 717's, it won't take Boeing long to replace them with 737's. I'd guess the combined company would fly them for another 2-4 years.

I would not go as far as saying there will be no hiring, Air Tran was hiring before this news came out and with the larger market comes more work..... maybe

It's been a bit overwhelmed this am, so you may have to be patient.

I am to start class with Airtran on October 18th, I hope this happens. I already turned in my notice to my current employer.

It's going to be hard but everyone needs to take a breath before throwing out a bunch of flame about furloughs and poolies. This acquisition will take years and Gary Kelly wrote several times in his letter to employees about NO immediate change in either company and the new company would be hiring. Let's all be sensitive to airtran crew members and southwest. It was definitely a shock to wake up to this news, I swear this company can keep better secrets than the CIA!

New Hires at AirTran, Record Profits at AirTran! How on earth will the SWAPA pilot group or SWA management justify a "Staple Job". This is a very healthy airline, with hiring and growth. Do you think there will be fair and equitable, Seniority List Integration?

This is going to be interesting to watch, that is for sure. I hope they figure out a way to make it fair for all players. As usual, somebody won't be happy in the end.

Yes, and for some time to come. There's 87 of them. That's too many to just park, and, they are making money with them.

Can we assume that a seniority integration agreement has already been worked out, given what happened during the Frontier buyout attempt?

Yep. Not good news for the poolies. I know how it feels.
