Default PIC Time at Southwest Airlines

I've got 1800 hrs. PIC turbine time (600 turboprop, 1200 turbojet). My turbojet time was in an MD-90 for a company who was acquired by a legacy carrier. I held on to the left seat until Nov. 1999, then got displaced to the right seat of the 757/767. My question is this: Is most everyone who is getting interviewed/hired at SWA currently flying in the left seat of something? Are my chances of getting interviewed/hired by SWA slim-to-none since I'm not currently flying in the left seat? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Jet, lots of people hired at SWA are currently in the right seat at their airline. I have many friends who were FO's with me at my previous airline and we all got hired at SWA from the right seat.

Thanks luv....I feel a lot better knowing that. I just returned from a meet 'n greet in SAN this past weekend, hosted by Higher Power (where I got my type) and SWA. I also attended the open house at SWA HQ back in June. For some reason, after the SAN trip, I felt like most folks getting interviewed and hired were currently in the left seat of an RJ or in the military. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again...jetdrivr

From talking to Ryan H. he said most pilots are getting hired w/o type around 2000pic so you are right there. Good luck.

Any words on what the competitive time is for someone with the type. I am currently military and will have the SWA mins (1300) when I put in my application. Lots of internal recs. What are the chances with the mins?

One guy in our interview squad had 1400 PIC. Not sure if he got the call or not though.

Heard from a friend that does the interviews that +/- 1900 Turb PIC is the average.

Jetdrivr,

I went to the SWA pilot open house in June. One of the things that was mentioned by the recruiter is that they like to see recent PIC time. I'm in the same boat as you. Nearly 1800 PIC turbine, but none in the last year and a half since I was displaced from 737 captain. Unless I change jobs, there's no hope for me to get anymore PIC turbine time for a long time. I still update, but I'll be suprised if I get the call.
