Default Where to list for INTL JS at IAD

I'm trying J/S on United in a couple of weeks to Dubai. Can anyone tell me where I need to go and list myself and how far in advance? Counter outside security, etc., 2 hours, 3 hours, etc.?

If I don't make it onto the DXB flight, I plan to use IAD-KWI four hours later as a backup and ZED on Emirates from KWI to DXB.

When I jump United I just go to the counter and it's no sooner than 4 hours before the fight. I did the ORD -MUC a few times. I would imagine it would be the same in IAD.

I generally buy zed fares as back up. Emirates has a flight out of IAD too. Just FYI.

I am doing this exact trip this weekend. Will let you know how it goes. I plan to check in at the gate an hour or so prior to dept just like I have done on all ual international flights departing the usa.

Wife is going with me and she'll be on a ZED. Do you know if they will put you in Economy Plus or are you stuck in Economy?

In the past with UA's old system it likely would issue Economy plus to a ZED traveler. Now with the new system, I believe it gives worst seat available. Half joking...
