The United 757 coming into EWR on the PHLBO today. This jack wagon slowed to 200kts around 15000' "for bumps" (no worse than continuous light...) and then asked for 20 right to go around a tiny cloud just outside of DYLAN, the tops were 8500-9000. The airplane behind him went right through it and reported light turbulence no precip. We weren't even painting it on the radar.

Because of this, we and every airplane behind had to enter a hold. The controller was ****ed and made it clear everyone was holding for United backing things up.

Freaking pilots forget they are IFR certified. I hate flying with these guys who have to go around every cloud they see.

Cool of the day: the controller who, shortly after departure cleared me direct destination.
Tool of the day: the next controller who gave me an almost 90 degree turn and "resume your original route".

I know, I know, things happen.

Not TOTD material. I got a little misty watching that myself. Kudos to that ol boy for being creative and inspiring and having a set 'o brass. We need more like this, and less pantywaists.

Give him credit. At least he requested a deviation. What gets me is the guy who will spin the heading selector and say "I'm gonna cheat a bit".

You are instrument rated right? Clouds aren't really toxic fumes you know*...

* Going into EWR, they may well be toxic fumes, but that's another discussion

One guys decides to slow down and go around a buildup and everyone else inbound to EWR has to enter holding? Seems unlikely. I, on the other hand, hate flying with guys who insist on flying through big puffy clouds while still up in the teens just because they're "not painting"' while all the people in the back get the snot knocked out of them.

It's not about being instrument rated, it's about doing a little extra not to scare the crap out of the people riding behind you who pay your salary. Everyone here can fly through a cloud as well as you can, superstar. That's not the point.

TOTD - Richard Anderson, for taking a perfectly good dog and having it put to sleep.

At first I thought he used the ATC system and tied up the radio. That would be toolish, but this was pretty cool in a passive aggressive way.

I would like to see his other hidden videos.

288 pages of pure gold!

I didn't go through all of them so I don't know if these have been covered. Some of these are aircraft specific, but I'm sure everyone can relate:

The tool that asks if I'm going to be serving drinks on this flight.

The tool that talks on his cell during the briefing

The tool FA on Expressjet who, because our airline doesn't fly jets, leaned into the cockpit and said to the Captain, "I guess they're just letting anyone jumpseat these days"

The ULTRA tool SkyWest pilot who gets on our company frequency, hears the animal noises and says, "This is why you guys don't get jobs at SkyWest."
