They are Abbotts! The first one, I heard something go clink clink clink on the floor when I released my harnesses after takeoff... couldn't see what it was. I figured it out when I went on my walkaround on next leg and saw my epaulet flopping in the wind off my shoulder. DOH.

It was the first of a 2 day trip, and I only brought that shirt. I really need to learn how to sew on button...

And this one time, at band camp...

No wait, it was day one of a 4 day, on the Mad Dog (of course) I caught my pant leg on a sharp edge of the center console, put a nice 3" rip just below my knee. At the next stop, I called for MX to bring some duct tape to the cockpit. I worked a 4" piece up my pant leg from the inside to patch the rip. Lasted the rest of the trip!

Never underestimate the power of Duct Tape!

If you can't fix it with duct tape, it's not worth fixin'.

For what? Fixing the button, or replacing it?

Brilliant!!

I utilized the safety pin underneath to secure my epaulet this last time. Worked pretty good. I told my wife for our 5th anniversary this last week her gift was to learn how to sew buttons.

Or maybe I didn't.

Maybe I need to try the shoulder strap through thing... I've shed 2 epaulet holder buttons in 2 trips using the over the epaulet method.

Obviously you need some remedial training on how to release your shoulder harness! You have to go over the epaulet, crusty epaulets are a sign of experience! I still wear my original ones from upgrade 12 years ago!!

That reminds me. I was commuting to work with a friend one time and, as he was getting up to deplane, he shredded his pants on the back of his thigh. Of course they were the only pants he brought for his trip but he was one smart cookie. He always carried a couple of black iron-on patches. He went down to the commuter room, used the patches and, voila, good enough to fly his trip!
