Here is an interesting article I read today related to the pilot shortage that always seems to be coming, but never seems to quite get here. Rising demand for airline pilots raises safety concerns | Fox News

He said he is fearful that if there is a shortage, airlines will hire pilots who are technically qualified but don't have the "right stuff."

ALAN BEAN
When Tom Wolfe wrote "The Right Stuff," I thought, boy, that sounds good. People are gonna think I have the right stuff. I'm the same guy I always was, but now I've got the right stuff!

The same thing is happening in so many other businesses or fields in the United States whereas the right stuff might be canidates proficient in higher math and science. The aviation industry will do what other businesses have done, leave the position vacant because he or she is unable to fill the position. No problem or who cares is a closer fit.

Did Kit Darby start this thread?
That a-hole has been selling "pilot shortage" for thirty years.

He must be so happy that he has made his name synonymous with snake oil salesman. Way to go Kit.

So we're concerned that the ATP rule (increase in pilot experience) is going to allow in those who don't have the right stuff? In other words, we fear this increase in minimum pilot experience is a threat to safety? Yeah right!! More like it's a threat to management's whip saw game.

It will be interesting to see how many guys will be leaving Active Duty for the airlines in then next few years. I know many of us are just waiting for the hiring to actually start then we'll punch. The guys who signed the 10 yr pilot commitment are starting to come to the end of the commitment. The perfect storm could be brewing for guys to leave and go to the airlines. I truly don't even think the military has any idea.

They never have.

That said, think twice before you drop the papers. It isn't exactly what you expect it to be over here. If you do punch, have a Guard or Reserve job lined up, preferably close to one of your airline's domiciles.

2. Except, I don't think the military cares. We're all just pieces of paper.

Default Age 70???

5 pages and noone thinks this shortage is not stage setting for increasing the retirement age again. That could be the "safety" solution.. When ALPO puts the survey out, grab your ankles..
