It was a very well put together presentation by the PVC. My opinion is...if JetBlue management doesn't meet industry average as a minimum, in all of the categories presented, it will put all of the ALPA fence sitters over the edge.
They need to act, they need to act now and it needs to be substantial. Otherwise ALPA will be on the property in no time at all. Oh...and pilot retention on the bottom half of the seniority list will be abysmal as everybody takes their A320/E190 training, experience and hours to the legacies as thier hiring/retirements ramp up.

This email was a great presentation of the issues from our PVC. Bottom Line, this is the way the material needs to be presented to the pilots! It is certainly not the way several people on APC have presented it thus far. We are all in this together, and we don't need something jammed down our throats. With that being said, I hope more than 25% of the pilots reads this presentation!! These issues need to be fixed, and yesterday. Overall this is the best place I have flown in my career and I want things to get better. However, we need all these issues resolved and we need them in writing so we can all sign it!
I worry the PVC is going to be under a lot of pressure from management, but I believe they are a good group. We all need to stand behind them and get these issues resolved. The only issue I really am scared about not getting anywhere with is health care. I want to talk to a PVC member about this, because there are huge costs coming to EVERYONE in this country when it comes to health care. Especially next year, if you thought this year was bad....This administration is making it so expensive for ALL companies so that the money can help the people that put them in power. Many companies are just plain cancelling health care for their employees. Now I know what you are thinking so I will help you so you don't have to say it... a CBA will help in this case.. It may help as it establishes a set cost for the company for the plans. However, if the costs are going up, WHO is going to pay for the cost at say United?? Is ALPA going to cover that increase year after year and increase dues as we pay for Obamacare? Or is United going to pay? I am not trying to pick on United, I am just using them because they are a large legacy. I am not an expert here, but the money is going to have to come from somewhere. Health care and merger protection are a problem in our current state at JetBlue and they both need to be fixed ASAP.
I do think when we get these issues fixed, we will loose premium pay. But that should be ok right? I think it will be ok as long as the company agrees that they are making a ton of money and we need to see more of it as pilots and employees of a succesful company in an extremely difficult market.
My conclusion to this is that I want to speak directly with the PVC more and I think we all need to. All 2400 of us! I may be wrong on some things and you may be wrong on things. Bottom line is we need to come together and help this PVC work something out with management. If they can't, we need to unionize as a last effort to try and retain pilots. There is movement coming, is JetBlue ready?!?

Great points and timing from our PVC, as we head into our comparative "salary" review with management. Here's the summary.
-Profit Sharing: We're at almost 0 w/everyone else near 5%
-Pay Rates: In a narrow body comparison we fall 16% short
-Vacation and Healthcare are lacking. Healthcare costs, passed on to pilots, are way out of proportion to our peer groups.
Everyone will now scream that we've known about these things, but now is the time to act. This is the first time in the company's history that things are swinging the way of labor in this industry.
This is "make or break" for the company. We need to see a meaningful offering. It could come in a variety of areas at different rates, or in a specific area. I believe this is the tipping point for ALPA and for the ranks of the company's mid-level first officers. Without a double digit hourly pay increase, ALPA is a given, and the exodus to DAL/UAL/AA begins.
I think a minimum of 10% will squelch some fires. The company could really sweeten things by combining a pay increase with making changes to vacation and retirement. I think the company has dug it's heels in on the healthcare debate. I don't believe they'll budge there.
The timing of this "brief" is calculated and exact. I still can't figure out how VA pilots are getting a raise and the company has yet to make $1.00? This is real and the time is now.

Don't get your hopes up for big changes. In fact, I think you've been told this for sometime. Maybe now you'll wake up.
