Well, the sitting MEC Chair for the Delta pilots when that deal went down put his number at the bottom of his recent political letter for your convenience ... if you would like to provide your opinion.

I'd prefer to harvest the veritable effervescent cornucopia of wisdom and expert opinion that is .... APC.

On the other hand, this agreement could be taken to an extreme: Regional airline Chatthoochiepoop pilots could agree to work for minimum wage (and thus drive down pilot compensation across the board) -- in exchange for preferential interviews.

Sets a bad precedent.
That precedent is already set

So let me get this straight.

I'm worrying my ass of that if, by some freak of nature I'm fortunate enough to get a call from Delta, my "average" GPA will get me sent home. Meanwhile the 9E SSP guy sitting next to me could have a GED and breeze through?

So with that being said I was better off staying at 9E, burning my diploma and never mentioning the fact that I went to college?

Am I right?

Seems fair

I agree, I failed 2 classes early on in college and it brought my average down a lot. I learned a lot from it and it made me a better student in the long-run. However I'm very much concerned about how the failures and "overall GPA" would be viewed by a major interview panel. It would certainly be frustrating to see that requirement gone for some.

On another note, yes maybe staying at 9E would have been better haha. I was west coast and applied for west coast regionals when I was low-time. Had I known what was up today I would have applied at Pinnacle/Mesaba/Compass because I could potentially be at mainline now. But I didn't have that crystal ball and now like you I'm competing with people that simply made a lucky regional choice.

True, things aren't always perfect. I am happy with the career decisions I've made because I made each one carefully with the best information I had at the time. While I certainly wish I was at the top of a flow-through list, I am happy with my efforts and I hope they pay off at some point either way.

Yes, some people have had real "solid" decisions dissolve right in front of them, while the gamblers hit the jack pot.

The specific wording of the bridge agreement requires anyone invited to the SSP to meet all of the hiring requirements, one of which is the degree. One can only wonder the lawsuits that can come from not following the letter of the bridge agreement.

The SSP folks count toward the preferential hiring of DCI pilots.
The vault letter supersedes the bridge agreement apparently, but we're not allowed to see it. Is it not a bit troubling that ALPA has parts of our contract we are not allowed to see?

I can't wait for scheduling to call me one day, saying I'm junior manned under the "secret contract", and if I refuse, I'll be put on double secret probation.

To be sure, I understand why Delta pilots care about who their fellow pilots are. I also understand not being happy about the way in which the SSP was negotiated.

If there is a redeeming quality, Delta gets full access to one's employee record, which is what now? A decade plus of part 121 flying, which must include captain time? To my mind, that person is no longer an unknown quantity proving themself in the matter of a one day interview. I imagine there will be more programs like this industry wide in short time, as well.

I really wish there was less animosity between pilot groups, and instead more reaching out between regionals and between mainline pilots with their connection pilots.
