Blue Dog Democrats have been hired at Delta. They're a dying breed in the public sector these days, however. Most Captains I fly with are conservative; I think I've flown with only 3 liberals in a 3-year period.

I'm sure it'd be a different mix if I flew out of LAX or SEA, but I fly out of ATL.

I am one of the two. I proudly carry a copy of Noam Chomsky just to incite healthy conversation.

I once heard a great quip:

A Republican is just a Democrat...with a job!

IMHO the panel looks for initiative, responsibility and self reliance.

I've known a few politicians. Delta pilots are, on average, a considerable cut above.

But, we agree it is unlikely that seat (or 6 seats) will be added without a deal in hand first. IMHO any express carrier would be pretty happy to sign on for current book in exchange for a Delta number at the bottom. We would need to maintain the overall fleet numbers to avoid transfer via refleeting from the 717/MD88 and any other higher CASM jets.
While I agree the majority at any DCI carrier would he happy with that, fact is it only takes a few greedy power players to think they can "roll the dice" once they feel a place on the list anywhere is imminent. And you can bet they will. And the contract only vaguely implies that it could potentially lead to a merger perhaps if it was a wholly owned. If SKYW added a seat, it wouldn't even come close. Grievance, accelerated, easy win, seat removed, done.

If it was Endeavor (what a stupid name) there is a snowball's chance it could lead to that in theory, but far more likely would be ALPA pushing the separate holding company angle and going the grievance/removal route.

In any case, for any of this to ever become a remote possibility, we would need an iron clad prenup, not some RJDC/PID "let's just get our foot in the door and see what we can get!" attempt. And we're not going to get that with Endeavor anymore than we got it from CMR/ASA back in 2000. The temptation on their end is just too great to resist.

We have rates currently flown by them and it doesn't mean we're anywhere remotely close to flying them ourselves. That empty threat was waived around back in 2000 with some ASA/CMR egos thinking they had 757 leverage by underbidding the mainline CBA. Didn't happen though, and its not because management stepped in to save mainline jobs.

While I absolutely hate the stench of what PCL and DL management did WRT their whole jets for concessions agreement, even if we assume their scope is now iron clad and superceedes ours like you claim, they only theoretically "own" how many 76 seaters? 40? The vast majority in the DCI fleet are not covered by their contract in any form and could still be taken back. It would take longer than the duration of the PCL contract to fully transfer the hundreds and hundreds of large RJ's to mainline even if the process started today, and we all know that's not happening.

So worst case we end up with 40 or so outsourced jets "protected" at PCL while we reclaim the rest (assuming we even care enough about the issue to reclaim a single one). That would be a really, really good start.

IOW does he overplay his hand even more? Bring it.
