That's pretty myopic. So why not a 6 year payscale then? or a 3 year payscale? 10 is a nice round number.... What is so magical about 12 years?

I see absolutely no reason why what you are espousing should come to pass. The future here is very bright. As a matter of fact, in a LGB pay scheme that I argued, it would be the bottom of the payscale that would see the biggest gains for the first 10 years or so. TVM and all that. I put my money where my mouth is...... But if you want to get nasty about it, I can't stop you.

Sure. And how are you going to contractually guarantee that quicker advancement?

I currently work under a contract with 18 steps. Our captain group would be far better off if that value was compressed into 12 steps (or less).

If you're advocating to stretch your current 12 steps to 18 without diluting the current values, then sign me up. I don't think anyone is debating that point.

This would be a question better answered by your negotiations committee. Because an enormous amount of economic research goes into developing those pay scales and how they arrive at the 12 year maximums, which they have decided is what your worth for the majority of your career.

So why 12 years? Its a happy medium. If you wanted a 3 year pay scale to achieve that same max pay, youd be locked up in negotiation/mediation/etc with management for years, and if you wanted a 25 year scale, youd be giving away a lot to the company. The 12 year payscale is what collective bargaining has arrived at as an industry standard. It incentivizes loyalty, but does not force you to have to wait forever to max the pay scale. I understand you feel like you should keep earning more than the 12 year max, it makes sense to think so. But that was never the intent. The max is the max, and inflation should be accounted for every time the contract is re-negotiated. Its not an easy or worth while task to compress the pay scale once its set.

See, that's the problem with this discussion, and it ALWAYS comes up. It is ASS/U/ME/D that it is either a compression or expansion of current rates. It doesn't have to be that way. But, if you insist on this, I just want maximum rates from the get-go, and annual raises, with a COLA in the event of negotiations stagnation. Throwing this time in service thing in makes zero sense, especially when it is a nebulous as age 65.

Ok- new guy to the thread....forgive my ignorance....
Didn't have a chance to go through every entry- looking to apply at DAL. Any current gouge, latest hiring updates that are current (perhaps from those recently hired / going through or recently gone through training), what the experience is like, etc. PM if necessary..... Appreciate any and all help. Best of luck to all!

I thought all new hires had to read the Delta L&G thread in its entirety prior to class because there was going to be a test.
