Agree. At this juncture I view those as "keep a union off property" rates and not "we've been playing games with your family's financial well-being for over two years" rates. It's great that VX management is throwing them a bone, but we are WELL past that point.

Just looking for a job like everyone else.

I am trying to digest everything....why is it a potentially poor career move...even if it is short term for experience in the 121 environment? Thanks for all input.

Obtaining 121 experience is not a poor career move. However, feeling compelled to cross a potential picket line to get that experience is a poor career move. I'm not saying you would, however, but I'm not sure how familiar you are with the ins and outs of unionized carriers. We could be just over a month from being released for self help.

Pardon my ignorance...do you think the reason they called me is due to the fact that a strike is immanent or happening? I didn't realize they would pull in scabs to cover the strike...I hope the delta thing pans out...and PSA is on the line for a class up in march...the compensation and bigger equipment is very appealing....thoughts?

It’s interesting you got a call for an interview. I thought we weren’t hiring until April or May. Springtime is usually non-training, because it’s our busiest all hands on deck period. Maybe there’re gearing up bodies to throw at the operation for it. It’s not really a big deal for you; you just don’t cross, problem easily averted.

While I don't put anything past those in charge at this company, I do not think that they are hiring just to cover a potential strike simply because it costs a ton of money to train pilots and virtually nobody will knowingly cross a picket line nowadays. Your qualifications are impressive and I have no doubt that is why you were called.

Thanks guys...not trying to impress...just gain employment. I couldn't believe they called so darn fast. So in your estimation...I would not ruffle feathers hiring on...I would know if a strike was going on...you would recommend a position at this airline?? over a regional (seems to be a good choice based on the pay)...if they aren't hiring much right now...I guess reserve is my ticket. Again...I'm new to the game and i'm trying to crawl...but running seems to be the key right now. Still looking for any gouge out there for interview, testing requirements, ect...

There's nothing wrong with accepting the job when we are on the verge of a strike as long as you don't do any work while the strike is going on. It will be up to the union as to whether participating in initial training is considered struck work. You will know beforehand. While we're confident that we will prevail with a new contract, the near term future at this company will be tumultuous at best. While this goes without saying, you are much better off quitting if you are given the ultimatum by the company to show up during a strike. You do NOT want to scab as the rest of your career will be lonely and your name will be forever associated with shame and cowardice.
