It's pretty quiet in the front of the bus. Maybe you can get one of those in the ear molded ear buds that you wear in one ear. Leaving the other ear unobstructed if you're worried about offending the other guy, but I doubt the other guy would be offended.

Hey Sulk, welcome to the Zoo! You'll find we're (mostly) chill up front. Do whatever works best for you. 99% of us shed at 180. The few who keep it on usually uncover the ear on the side of their flying partner.
Although some have pointed out somewhat less diplomatically, you will find this a relatively minor issue...

I also use the 850 telex and try to keep it on as much as reasonably possible. Years ago I took a DB meter with me to check out the sound levels. While the cockpit might seem quiet in cruise, its only relatively so. I don't remember the numbers, but with prolonged exposure even the "quiet" cruise time will do damage to your hearing. Obviously the lower indicated airspeeds produce less noise.
In low altitude high airspeed conditions, I really wish more would use the intercom, so I wouldn't have to leave one ear off in order to hear the other guy.

"36 years of professional flying left (hopefully) which means protecting hearing is of utmost importance."
True, but you aint gunna need to worry about protecting your hearing for the last several decades of that career sitting in an aircon office flying a drone.
Hey Sulkair, interesting handle,,where did you get that from? Points east?
