Interesting how all of the "experts" on cable news that say they would have banned flights over Ukraine have never mentioned the flights over Iraq (or Afghanistan for that matter!)
Last night from DXB-ATL, we didn't go over Iraq.

I guess Corporate Security didn't think it would be prudent...

I'm thinking we should be going right over Iraq at 330, nordo, lights out, transponder off...OR...going over Bagdad, at 350kias, at 200'!

Just an FYI MANPADS are not an issue at TLV (this week ).The type of rockets used by Hamas are unguided ground to ground missiles with rudimental direction ability. The biggest threat I was concerned with is falling debris after the Iron Dome hits an incoming missile. Missile used in the Ukraine is ballistic and a very sophisticated anti aircraft weapon.

+1 ... I was going to suggest the same last night but opted out. No commercial passenger aircraft has anti-rocket countermeasures. Having said that much, I doubt El-Al countermeasures could stop the latest MANPADS, if any entity were to be foolish enough to attempt a shoot down.

Delta's diversion kicked everything off.
A US Airways flight inbound landed in TLV and re-fueled, then ferried to FCO. Both the inbound and outbound US crew was on board for the ferry. Along with a Delta Airlines crew that was in TLV. I'm assuming the Delta crew was supposed to fly out the aircraft that diverted.

Any rate, 3 crews are out of harms way...

We used to, but since the UN imposed sanctions on Iran, we stopped going over there. We went west through Saudi last night.

MH17 wasn't landing in the Ukraine either.
