July 24 (Reuters) - Alaska Air Group reported a higher second-quarter profit on Thursday, aided by lower fuel and maintenance costs and fees for items such as checked baggage.
Net income came to $165 million, or $1.19 a share, compared with $104 million, or 74 cents a share, a year earlier. Adjusted for fuel hedges, profit was $1.13 a share.
Revenue rose 9 percent to $1.38 billion. Yield, a measure of the average fare, rose 2.8 percent to 15.14 cents.
Alaska Air, parent of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, faces more competition in its home market of Seattle as Delta Air Lines builds a hub there for mainly international flights.
The company, which split its stock and announced additional share buybacks in the second quarter, said pretax margin widened to 18.3 percent in the period from 13.5 percent a year earlier.

Best news in my eye is that all of our yields are up and our loads haven't changed. Too early to tell for certain but so far so good in defending Seattle. There was another article saying our pie of SEATAC traffic hasn't changed and is steady at 54%...more good news.

Why so bitter dude? You guys are the big kahuna's you should be happy and celebratory, you have a great airline. Why the infatuation with Alaska's demise?

I've posted many times before. Both airlines are great, with great management, employees & a strong culture. I think there's definitely enough "cheese" in SEA for both.
Is industry consolidation over? Personally, I don't think so. Honestly, I don't have an "infatuation with Alaska's demise." A good friend of mine was recently hired by Alaska, and I wish him and the rest of his colleagues a prosperous future. If I were to hope for anything, it would be you guys merge with ANYONE else other than Southwestern.
Good day. Sorry the 'medium' of text, without un-associated emoticons is interpreted in different ways, at times.

My bad for not seeing the fraternal fun in that. Your apology for my reaction is accepted. Wait, that's essentially like accepting my own apology because it was me who reacted badly, not your comment that caused the reaction. Sounds like an argument I've had with my wife.
One thing I've learned is it is 100% impossible to win an online argument but it is fun trying.
Peace & hugs
