If only the government had the guts to quarantine and prohibit entry to anyone traveling from Liberia or any other Ebola-infected country. Deny them all.

Sounds good at first look doesn't it? It doesn't test, though.

So we send people over there to help, they all get locked in... military personnel, doctors, oh and the aircraft the military flew in, too...all of them.

Great idea!

What is an Ebola infected country, anyways? We're technically an Ebola infected country, now.

Well that's our problem. We keep trying to police the world and it isn't working. You can't fix extremists and you can't fix Ebola. Find a cure for it (they cured the American doctor) and then mail it to them. I understand wanting to help people, but NOT if it means coming home and then putting us at risk.

As for us being an Ebola infected country, yes we are, thanks exactly to the problem I just stated, and my solution which would have kept Ebola out.

This is what they really should have done from the start!

Unfortunately, the CDC is really letting this whole thing go way too far. They should have banned travel from the affected countries right from the start-but that wouldn't have been politically correct.

So now we have a situation where they let a woman fly who had a known exposure to an Ebola victim-and we have potentially hundreds more exposures since that flight.

I sincerely hope and pray that this doesn't get out of hand. The idiots at the CDC have made poor decisions at every turn-and we will be extremely lucky if no one on those flights turns up ill.

They don't have the guts. PC dominates all decisions nowadays. "Whom are we going to offend?" becomes the first question.

Sounds nice, but completely impractical. The people in affected African countries would simply travel a different way, infect more people, etc. It isn't the 1600s; people move around and take their stuff with them. Also, panic is taking over. There are 2 people infected in our country. 2. You cannot catch this disease through casual contact. Wash your hands and get on with your lives.

Are you suggesting they'd take a raft from Liberia to the USA? Much like after hearing Dr. Frieden of the CDC, I don't see how forbidding foreign nationals from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone from entering the USA is 'impractical'. Sounds very logical and practical to me.

I'm suggesting they use cars or other airlines to visit different countries. Then they infect others who travel here. Trying to shove the toothpaste back in the tube at this point is not going to happen. Banning foreign nationals from those countries may make us feel better, but won't stop Ebola from getting around, in my opinion.

If we instituted strict travel restrictions, most first and second world nations would follow suit. Many third world countries have already taken these steps since they know they are not capable of handling Ebola. The policy we have now is essentially 'open borders'. It's beyond insane. And besides the health concerns, the Ebola panic will start to hurt our industry should we not aggressively nip it in the bud. Perception is reality to most regular folks.

I hope you're right, but I fear that many borders exist only on a map rather than being some sort of actual barrier. I think if the countries where this originated had such good border security than they might have good enough health care to have nipped this in the bud. That is clearly not the case. The reality, as you state, is potential panic, not the disease itself.
