And no inflight service to boot.
I'd love to see the count of destinations that their mainline actually flies to, minus all the regional feeder lift. "We" fly to 370 cities around the world...yeah, about that...

UAL is a huge international carrier. They fly more people internationally than Delta despite flying less than Delta domestically. Plus regardless of the United or United Express painted on the side, they still sold those tickets and paid for the airplanes to move their passengers.

As far as our passengers are concerned, SkyWest, ExpressJet, ASA, Mesa, Republic don't exist. Only the FF's know about the subcontracting and even they don't care - the mainline partner handles all ticket sales and customer service and that is who they deal with.

You just summed up everything that's wrong with our industry. The pax have no idea that the "United" ticket they bought is for a flight that is operated by another company, with pilots that are grossly underpaid and overworked, yet doing basically the same job as their mainline brothers. I know it's been said a million times already. It is a chronic PITA having to explain that airline pilots are not enjoying the kind of high-income, luxurious lifestyle the general public still thinks we are, while also having to explain who it is I actually fly for. Despite Miles O'Brien's Frontline special and Sully doing his best to inform the world, America largely still doesn't get that nearly half of the pilots in this industry make only 5 figures despite the massive barriers to entry and significant skill requirements this career has.

It's false advertising.

I wouldn't call a high school education + 1500 hours a massive barrier. I would call 8-12 years of post secondary education to become a doctor or lawyer a massive barrier.

I saw the new SW add and was wondering why there were no Captains, only F/O's.

Or did the Captains all tell the company to shove it, until they get their new contract/raises?

What's to explain? Regional pilots didn't fall off the turnip truck before joining their carriers. They knew the crummy pay and T&Cs they were going to receive. I don't recall reading any articles in the rags stating "Pilot held at gunpoint to take crappy low paying job".

Perhaps if they had respect for the industry and declined suc generous offers of crappy pay, T&Cs would have been better. But alas... want that job in that shiny jet no matter the personal cost.
