Is it hard to get one day trips?

Just as Joey said... Sun Country Isn't a Legacy but it will allow you to do day trips. Now with all that being said hopefully it will be around long enough for me to finish my career here if I like. The QOL is about as great as any 121 carrier if you live in base.
If you want to be married and have kids one day. Good luck with that. It's a tough path for men and we are not the ones giving birth. The first year of motherhood is very important for the childs development. It was very tough for my wife to go back to work and she's not a pilot and has a very flexible job that doesnt take her away from our house half the month.

Also, the being gone 4-days at a time is rough but I'd still rather do that and be home for 4-5days a stretch. I have friends who do the 9-5 grind and they get home in time to put their kids to bed, that's it. Sure isn't quality time......

I may be gone 3-4 days at a time, but usually have 4-5 off inbetween. Cook breakfast for my kids before putting them on the bus. Do what I have to around the house while they're gone. If I have nothing to do, either volunteer in school, or at least go have lunch with the kids. Help them with their homework when they get home. And then end up playing outside with my kids and the neighbor's kids in the afternoon.
QOL is where you find it, or make it.

I guess it depends where you are. 9 months at United and I have all 1 and 2 day trips in November. In fact, I bid 4 days and a lot of times cant get them. Most guys in my category either commute or drive long distance. Im not complaining, just waiting for the calender to flip

Bottom line, being a pilot means.......wait for it.......wait for it........BEING AWAY FROM HOME at one time or another. And usually for consecutive nights.
It's even in the brochure, it's ALWAYS BEEN IN THE BROCHURE. It's not even hidden in the fine print.

It varies from base to base at DL- if you live in NYC, the day trips go fairly junior since it's mostly commuters. On the ATL 737, the senior day trip FOs can hold widebody captain.
My category in ATL has quite a few commuters, so at just over half way back, I was able to drop/swap my way to a line more like someone much senior to me... ending up typically with only 4-5 nights away from home.
