Default Is it hard to get one day trips?

I heard at Delta, its easy to get one day trips where you're home every night because most people commute...is that true?

No. One day trips are senior.

Absolutly untrue. They go the most senior of all trips because everybody that lives in base wants to do the same thing you want. Be home every night with their family.

With few exceptions, one day trips go senior at most airlines. Being able to fly and come home every night is just about the only way to have a semblance of a normal life in this career. This presumes you live in base as well. Pilots at large airlines may wait many years or even a decade for that opportunity.

For perspective. I have been at Delta for 14 years and cannot hold 1 day trips in any category. Except NYC 717B. And I'm not sure they have 1 day trips in that catagory.

I know it's not a Legacy, however at Spirit I was able to hold day trips after 8 months . The best part is no matter what happens In the future I am able to spend a ton of time with my 2 yr old daughter during the younger years. I Can't tell you how lucky I feel to be able to spend this much time with her at this age, it's awesome.

I'm still envious of Delta's pay and DC plan but Ya can't get back lost time!!!

Either way you need to accept that if you are going to pursue this career, you simply will not have that level of control for a long time if ever. If you prioritize it too early, you could stagnate yourself and your career too. The key to this career is flexibility and persistance. Especially if you want to make it to the higher paying carriers.

Well said, I knew a chap with a MD80 & B737 operator based in LGA, a mere 20 minutes from his house in Forrest Hills on a bad day. Wanted weekends off. Well after several discussions with his C/P, he got that and every weekend off, after he was requested to clean out his locker.. The disillusioned chap wound up at flight safety as a B1900 sim instructor.

His friend, who I also know is enjoying his golden years with UAL née CAL.. Oh I forgot to mention two trips a month on the triple as well.

So just be patient, and be a good little Do Bee, and eventually, one day trips may be ticked off from your wish list. Of course you may be a grand parent by then, but it's not impossible.
