Default WSJ: Airlines Post Strong Profits

Article from the Wall Street Journal:

Airlines Post Strong Profits, Offer Bullish Outlooks - WSJ - WSJ

In a nut shell:

Several U.S. airlines posted stronger third-quarter profits and expressed bullish sentiments for the current quarter, based on falling fuel prices, strong holiday bookings, domestic capacity discipline and a slight easing of Ebola jitters.
United Continental Holdings Inc., which has lagged behind its largest rivals, had a particularly strong quarter, as its profit more than doubled. American Airlines Group Inc., Southwest Airlines Co. and JetBlue Airways Corp. all said they posted a record profit for the quarter.

JetBlue’s profit climbed 11% to $79 million

Alaska reported an 8.1% jump in traffic, though its load factor edged down to 86% from 86.5% a year earlier. Overall, the company’s revenue fell to $1.47 billion from $1.56 billion a year earlier. However, excluding special items, its profit climbed.

American reported a profit of $1.2 billion, compared with a year-earlier profit of $771 million

United posted a profit of $924 million, or $2.37 a share, compared with $379 million, or 98 cents a share, a year earlier
