AA Base and Fleet Gossip
With all the changes looming, why not start its own dedicated thread? For example, myself and a few friends were discussing the future of the combined base/fleet structure. The topic was LUS and the possible growth of PHL (increased int ops?), and the loss of int flying out of CLT. With all of the retirements, movement, and changes (bases/fleet plans) coming it would be interesting to hear the latest rumors from all of us in the combined system.

Awesomepilot that is pure B.S. - I heard they are going out to the desert and bringing back the BAC111. We all said that when the last Fokker 100 trip goes out, the crew will deadhead home on the "BACasauraus". It's a 1950's SST- Sub Sonic Trash....

Mgt has mentioned that eventually they'd like to see if they could switch gauge to follow the peak travel cycles. Eg. 330's to Europe in the summer, 767's in the winter.
The bases mentioned in the concept were CLT and MIA.
So the concepts out there but they said it will be awhile before they figure if, and how, they'd do it.

What is the fleet plan for the AA side? Every time I ride on a S80 I love it. Quiet and smooth. Burns $$ in fuel but with prices down I wonder how competitive it is now. NWA owned their DC9's which was a great business plan, you could park them when needed to reduce demand. It blows me away that AA is STILL leasing those planes, some from even TWA's time, although I heard the lease payments went way down.

You obviously haven't rode in the back. Louder than the oldest POS turboprop- more vibration too. Absolutely horrible, not to mention the last few rows of windows are blocked by the engine nacelle. Of course, the noise keeps your mind off the fact that an un-contained engine failure will likely kill you.
The ride up front is pretty nice though.
