1st, thanks for taking a look. I'm trying to figure out how as a commuter, I can make my way between LGA, JFK, my crashpad, and EWR. My crashpad is in Kew Gardens and is roughly half way between JFK and LGA (close the corner of Metropolitan Ave and Lefferts Blvd). Most of my flights will originate/terminate at one of those two airports; however, about 15% of my trips will originate/terminate out of EWR.

I know as a backup I can always take a taxi, but I'd like to minimize the taxi since that would be fairly expensive. I've heard of a service called the Kew Runner (q-runner?) that runs between LGA and JFK with stops in Kew Gardens. I've been told that this is an FA mode of transportation which pilots can take space permitting.

Is it scheduled or do I have to call?
If I have to call, what is the phone number?
Where does it pick-up/drop-off at LGA and JFK?
How much does a ride on the Kew Runner cost vs. a cab?

Is the JB shuttle an option for a non JB pilot? If so, I've got the same questions about the shuttle as I do about the runner.

Is the bus or subway a viable option?

Finally, what are my options to get to EWR and back other than a very expensive taxi ride?

Sorry, I know it's a lot of questions but I've never commuted before. Replies here would be great since I know there are a lot of new guys going to NYC, but private messages are fine too.

Take the train to EWR. It can take awhile but so can taking a taxi. And a taxi would cost lots of $$$. You'll have to transfer at Penn Station as well as transfer to the slow monorail Airtrain at the EWR transfer station.

Doubt the JB shuttle will work for a non JB crew member to Kennedy....they have a clipboard which we have to write down our emp # when we get on....q10 is an option to JFK, runs all night for $2.50, takes about 35-40 min

I'm cheap and take mass transit 95% of the time.

I'm also in Kew commute out of JFK and most of my flights are out of LGA.

To get from Kew to JFK I take the J/Z to Jamaica then the airtrain. $5 with a 10 ride/$25 airtrain metro card. Get this card first then add money to it for the subway. Can't do it out of that order. If there are a couple other commuters or the airtrain is down I'll split a kew cab. If you want to be really cheap the Q10 will get you there in about 45 minutes but most busses don't have luggage racks and by the time you get to jfk you won't feel the lower part of your body as your kit bag and roll aboard has been sitting on your legs for a while. If I do this I usually take the limited and get off by Howard beach and take the airtrain from the parking lot (free)

To Get from Kew to LGA I walk to the union turnpike take the E/F to Roosevelt and the Q 70 from there. 45 minutes if you time it right and no traffic in Jackson heights. $2.50

To get from Kew to EWR I take the E to Penn station then get on NJT to the EWR airtrain. There are a couple other ways to do this and prices on NJT and the Path vary a little but should be between $13 to $18 including the $2.50 for the E. I have done this in as little as 50 minutes but would give myself at least 2 hours. The EWR airtrain is pretty bad.

From EWR to JFK take ewr airtrain to NJT to Penn to the E to Jamaica.

From EWR to LGA do the above but from the E get off at Roosevelt and take the q70.

From LGA to JFK there are a few options.
If I have a while I'll take the q70 to the E to the airtrain.
If I have between 1 and 2 hours I'll take the airporter.
If I have less than an hour I'll cab it either kew cab or yellow taxi (last resort but if you can't wait and it's the last flight home $40 is better than a night in the pad.

What do you call "expensive" for a taxi between LGA & JFK? I know you are a new hire, but it might be less than you think.

The train is the best way to get to EWR. Take NJ transit from penn station, there's a train to the airport about every 15 minutes. The NYC airporter is also a great way to get in between the three, and it picks up/drops off right outside penn station also which should make things easy for you.

Etsairportshuttle.com. van service between all 3 airports without transferring anywhere. $10 between jfk/lga. $32 between lga/jfk and ewr. They MAY offer crew discount, but haven't taken them in years. Avoid rush hours if you can or it can take 2 hours easily.
