Airline Pilots in Old Taildraggers

[QUOTE=ShyGuy;1807872]Thank you for this. I'm going to use this as an example. "Fate is the Hunter" type right there! I live in the NYC metro area and am too reluctant to fly GA here with a wife and lil kid. QUOTE]
Shyguy, have you ever been up to Old Rhinebeck? Maybe an hour or so north of NYC just east of the Hudson. They fly on weekends during the summer I believe. There's a couple hangars full of real old planes, I'm talking Jennys and WW1 planes! A small museum, grass strip, and food available. I went up in an old Standard while there with the pilot and four of us as passengers. He flew west towards the Hudson and the next thing I knew we're circling with 3-4 Bald Eagles! Totally amazing.

A write up in "Flying" is essential. Hope you do it.
Resurrecting this thread to report my most recent taildragging shenanigans. I just got back from a 3200 NM trip in the Pacer to the Bahamas and back. I did the Bahamas portion in the company of a rented Piper Warrior piloted by my training partner from Mad Dog school last year; he hadn't flown a small plane in 25 years but got checked out and did great. Our wives, my brother, and my brother's ladyfriend came with for the flying portion. We spent five days island-hopping and four days cruising the Sea of Abaco in a rented 46' Leopard catamaran (5 other friends flew in to join us for that). I flew into Freeport, Great Harbour Cay, Nassau (to pick up my wife who airlined in after being stuck in nonrev hell for 2 days), Norman Cay, Staniel Cay, North Eleuthera, and Marsh Harbour. We had life vests, life rafts, rations, and a SPOT for the overwater portions (the longest of which were 106 nm), and got flight following from Miami Center for the two longest crossings. Much of the time in the Bahamas, we were within gliding distance of land. There were a lot of other small singles at the outisland airports (including a tiny CTLS!). The paperwork was relatively straight-forward and Bahamian customs people quite friendly and eager to help. Can't recommend this trip enough, it was pretty fantastic. Anyone wanting details on practicalities feel free to PM me. Will have more pics in a couple of days.
