Smart boy, I'm guessing the feds would have been all over him like a tent. Hopefully the F/A and the F/O weren't trashing the Capt. or the Co. when they pulled the tape....

Hey, on the bright side, the FO just got a sweet TMAAT story in case he wants to get on with a major some day........
Maybe the FO got a "tug" for doing such a good job, averting disaster, etc.......
I hope they foamed the runways just in case.

Most FOs now have a PIC Type Rating, which entailed taxiing and a rejected takeoff. Would it be legal to taxi it on in after switching seats? You would be exercising your In Command authority. (I think I'd ACARS the Duty Pilot for some top cover before doing it myself though).

Didn't know that the Captain was required to land the airplane. I'm pretty sure my type rating they give these days says I'm qualified. Though, all kidding aside, this just reinforces the reasons why the FO should be up to the task if it's there. Who would have thought that a Delta Captain would have been kept from the cockpit, crazy times we live in. I heard it was a mad dog, if correct, well it is a pretty crazy door. Not the sorta door we have on the Bus. (by the way, you mad dog guys, wow, jumpseating it's like a 1960's C-130E model that I flew at the rock....no other word but respect.)

On a serious note (unrelated to your post), as long as most of us that have been this, I CAN'T believe some of the obvious sarcasm being stated ISN'T obvious enough.
And causing others to make silly points that are ALREADY obvious know to us.
Wait, pilots, never mind. I CAN believe it.......

He did the right thing by not taking any additional liability, the plane is on the ground safe..., he is done and so is his emergency authority by the way..! It doesn't matter that he has a type, he is certified on the right seat under the part, pilots have to be certified in both seats if they are to operate the airplane from either seat.
There is also another aspect to all of this, How is he going to switch seats? With the engines running? Most companies have very clear language on their operations manuals as to have a pilot at the controls at all times when the airplane is being operated, even is you set the parking brake if the engines are running that constitutes the airplane being operated...! He was very smart and professional in not doing any further operations with this airplane after he landed it safely.
