Default What ever happened to EAL Shuttle pilots

Just curious... Where did the EAL shuttle pilots end up. The shuttle was spun off before the 89' strike. Then got bought by trump then US air I think.

Where did they end up after that? What DOH seniority did they get? Are they now part of the US air east group? Are there any still flying?

I had 4 Eastern pilots in my ANG Unit back when all that was going down. Only one went to the Trump Shuttle, and when it was bought by USAir (?) he was furloughed, I think. He retired from the ANG and died of a heart attack a few years later, about age 56 or so, I think all that stress is what caused it.

Of the other 3 Eastern guys, two went to Flying Tigers then merged into Fed Ex, and are now retired. The other one became a full timer at the Guard and retired from there. I think all three of them are still alive but I haven't seen two of them in quite a while. I doubt if any of them are still flying at US Air, having aged out by now.

Maybe some super senior US Air guys know what happened to the Trump Shuttle guys?

A long long time ago in my NYC crashpad, there was one of them in there. Super cool guy, and it was as you said, TRUMP then USAir. In his case anyway.

But I can't remember all the deets after that in regards to how the seniority shook out, if they were fenced from certain seats/bases, etc.

The senior Shuttle pilots were slotted in at US Airways, but at a ratio that was not very advantageous to them. And none of them had their EAL DOH honored. Many of the junior ones (mostly the 727 FE's) were simply stapled to the bottom.

Just as the Empire pilots were stapled to the bottom.

By the one pilot group that, more than any other, has screamed so loudly and righteously for years that DOH is the only fair way to integrate a seniority list.

.
All Trump Flight Engineers were ratio-ed in among US Air First Officers.

DOH between those two groups was within a couple months of each other.

Ummm, they asked for their Eastern date-of-hire which would be something of a stretch because they technically left Eastern to join a start-up airline called Trump Shuttle.

They actually got far better than the start date of Trump Shuttle. The senior Trump pilot went in at somewhere around the 1000 mark on the seniority list, which would have been about a 1982 hire date. Pretty darn good considering Trump didn't start until mid-1989. The junior FE, as already noted, went in within a few months of his hire date.

I bet if you asked a senior Trump pilot if it was fair he might say, yes it turned out a lot better than most other scenarios and certainly a lot better than for many other EAL pilots.

It certainly was not the career destroying award of the USAir-AWA integration.
