Did you ever consider that if the legislators can arbitrarily change the requirements for the 3rd class medical, the next step is to arbitrarily change the requirements for the 1st class medical?
I guess you also forgot the FAA Head Doc who wanted to add the BMI check and Sleep Apnea test.
YOU DO NOT WANT CONGRESS DICTATING MEDICAL STANDARDS.
Get it?

Often the only thing that can stop the bureaucratic nightmare known as the FAA is congress, for good or ill.
Often the only pressure that lobbying groups such as AOPA or ALPA can exert are through members of congress and the only people the FAA really worries about are members of congress because they control the purse strings. Its government 101. Should watch more school house rock.

HA! That is funny.
They just said AOPA and EAA had the 'backlash'.
They are forgetting a large organization and what they did. Also, that bill they mention got no where.
