I know it was a different world when our last contract was negotiated, but we had 3 meetings a WEEK for the better part of a year and many added months of random meetings afterwards to get pay / scheduling / etc. done.

Would someone who KNOWS please chime in about what the norm is for a negotiations process agreement? ALPA's ideal would be great to know.

A popular saying, and you'll find it's true.

Although ALPA does provide some good services (as do others) OUTSIDE of contracts. Aeromedical (I've used it, AWESOME), Loss of license, etc etc etc.....

It could be argued, depending on perspective. But there's been more "collectivization" or what have you among the carrier's MECs. And it's not just ALPA. But they are ALL meeting to share/exchange information, strategies, experiences, etc dealing with their respective companies to find out what "works" in the negotiating arena and what needs help.

I'm no ALPA cheerleader, but it does seem that the national level is starting to figure a few things out and getting back to making this career "better". Or simply, less crappy coming out of the dark decade.

As most have said before.... It really doesn't matter who you have. You ain't getting your money until you are released, or management is threatened that the next step is release or you make it all the way to a strike..
At Sun Country it literally was the last hour of the last multi day meeting that ownership was told that we were being released and they opened up the check book.
It took 5 years of bu!!$hit, failed mediation, and a useless NMB to get us where we are now. You will only get what you negotiate for when you get released. The NMB is not on your side.

Wouldn't being ALPA help if there was a possibility of a strike? You would have the resources of ALPA to help out in that possibility.

You could possibly argue that a few people at ALPA make enough money to be a member at the same country club as the members of the NMB. Then you'd also have to assume ALPA national gives a **** about your small pilot group and will pull strings to assist your release for self help.

I take back part of that statement, ALPA would never allow any of their executives to pay for a golf club membership from their take-home pay. They are far too good at making sure your pilot dues going to National are delegated for those deserved perks. They are purely non-profit and exist for the betterment of the professional airline pilot.

They did a good job of supporting Sun Country pilots and helping negotiate a rather substantial pay increase this year. To me, the example of the support they have a carrier of only 250 pilots would leave me to believe Frontier stands a far better chance with ALPA than without.
