^^ bingo.

And if you want to stay domestic with the retirements and guys going to w/b flying your domestic seniority at DL/UA/AA will be that much greater. I forget the timeframe (10 years?) using the current bid statuses and who's flying domestic you'd be in the top 2% of FO's in EVERY LAA base if you stay on domestic n/b's.

Net? The Big 3 will be better advancement than SW for someone who only wants to fly domestic.

Jr. captain at Delta is 1.5 years, hiring in the neighborhood of 1000 per year. Lots of jets on order, with some uncertainty regarding the end state growth - but my money is on net gain. I'm not up to speed on the similar stats at WN, but I don't think they are anywhere near comparable.

I will fly any safely maintained transport category jet for the right $ and schedule. But let's face it, the 737 has the worst flight deck of any mainstream in-service airliner. If you value your hearing, ergonomics and actually enjoy a good view from your office, that dinosaur is last on the list of preferred work environments. Not trying to offend anybody, but it's a factor. Delta has them too, but other aircraft choices abound. Like others have said all around this forum, your question is moot unless you have offers from both or are working at one and the other calls. And you'd be silly not to apply to both and all the other viable players. Write us back when it's a problem!

Quick question on the Delta 1.5 captain upgrade: is that a one time thing or every month there's upgrades at 1.5 years? I understand it's in the MD-80 NYC which isn't desirable at all, but is this going to continue being 1.5?

FedEx recently had a bid where 757 CA went to guys with less than a year on property, I'm also wondering if that will be a continuous upgrade time for them or it's a one time occurrence as well.

Money will be the same. If you are comfortable with the 737 overhead panel and you don't mind looking at it for the rest of your career, go for SWA.

I complain if I have more than 6 legs on a 3 day, I couldn't imagine doing some of those quick turnarounds that SWA does. Yes, you make good money as an FO, but you are really doing the number of legs that a regional airline pilot does. I currently fly the 737 and it's a great jet, but flying the same plane for 10...15... 20 years can be freakin' mind numbing. I would much rather be at DAL, you can do all the domestic narrow body flying you want, but still have the option to do something different.

I don't think it's easy to predict But the last two AE's have had very Jr guys get it. Like anything else, depends what you want and what everyone senior to you wants. I personally think it'll be a while before guys that jr get anything but NYC 88/717. But....who knows. Either way, it's pretty exciting to see.

Should be AE results out very soon, we will see if it is 3 in a row.

What's the upgrade time at other junior DL bases?
AA is within a couple hundred(?) numbers at MIA/LGA/LAX. Mid/late 2000 DOH.

Atl 88 capt went to a Jan 14 hire. Little over 2.5 years for non-NYC capt. Wasn't expecting that.

NYC 717 capt went to a late 14 hire.

So, appears to be continuing for now.
