The 88 and 90 I'll give you (poor packs make for a little ring around the collar... In ATL... In July...) They figured that out on the 717 though, and it's roomier, considerably more quiet than a 737, and I don't even have to tune my own ILS freq!

Actually, if your over 6'4" there is no comparison as to tight cockpits as the 737. 88/90 are not roomy by any stretch (I have not flown the 717) but sure as heck beat the room inside the 737 and much quieter to boot!

I agree, the 88/90 is a little bit of a squeeze getting in, but once your butt is in the seat, you'd have to be over 7ft tall to not be comfy, plus she's very quiet up front, maybe this is why MD didn't put a pilot to pilot intercom in it?!?🤔

My personal math:
SWA Pros:
Better domiciles
Never need to retrain
No coat or hat!
DAL Pros:
Shorter upgrades
More options, both jets and trips
More stage 4 flying
Both companies appear to be well run and I expect both of them to be around when it's my time to hang up the spurs. I applied at both, but when I applied SWA still required the type and I never bothered getting one so it's pretty obvious who my pregame favorite was. I'll let ya know in 20 years which one was better...

UAL no longer has wide bodies in DEN and I'm done commuting so that argument is out. Oscar might be running a better airline but the last 20 yrs were garbage for UAL pilots and it'll take a lot to turn that around. The only thing UAL has on SWA in my opinion/situation is better pay, retirement but that'll change with the new SWA contract. I'll sacrifice a faster upgrade to drive to work.

DL and SWA look more predictable at the moment. UAL is the leader in widebodies and I don't think that will change but if you're after the heavy metal FDX blows everyone out of the water. UAL could turn out okay long term but it's more of a gamble.

Delta. I like having the choice of switching planes or flying international if I want. If you decide that international isn't for you, you can stay domestic and enjoy the seniority. I haven't hit 3rd year pay yet and I can hold narrow body captain or wide body F.O. in NYC. I suspect I may be able to hold wide body in my current base by the end of the year...probably narrow body captain at year 3-4.
If you want to live in a SWA base and don't want to ever have to commute then SWA is probably the best bet. I know lots of guys who have left one airline for another, for home basing options. Just keep in mind that Delta used to have bases in ORD, DFW, MCO, PDX...you get the point. There were two former SWA guys in my DAL class and a 5 year SWA guy in the class behind me. Then again, a buddy had class dates for both and stuck with SWA since they gave him an earlier class date...having the choice is great!
Having flown the 737 for a few years now, I can't imagine having to fly that thing the rest of my life. I don't even care about the archaic overhead panel, it's just an uncomfortable cockpit, unless you're 5'5''. As to the 88/717/737 comfort and design...been on the JS of them all, the 717 wins hand down! The 320 blows them all out of the water.
Both are great companies, best of luck!
