Frontier Pilot options
There has been a lot of talk lately about "Flying Your Contract." I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment, but does it stop there? Absolutely not. We are also obligated to fly our Flight Operations Manuals as well. Many folks have gotten quite used to using other methods of communication other than the preferred method.
FOM 1, 25.10
When available, ACARS is the preferred method for communicating routine information to station and maintenance personnel. Some ACARS reports are made automatically, while others will require crew action, etc.
By using the word preferred, Frontier is telling you to use ACARS first and foremost. If it is not available, you should consider alternate means. Simple as that, clear as mud?? Anyone care to weigh in??

If you are at a station with an 'ops' frequency why not use that, for ops issues or maintenance?
When out of range, or in the air, then reach out with ACARS. It may depend somewhat on the type of event or particulars. Then we have Air-Inc on VHF too.
Just the way I see it.

Yeah... if we would all just ACARS dispatch instead of calling on our phone, the company will be on their knees begging us to sign an industry leading contract.
Give me a break. There is nothing we can legally do that is not an illegal work action or would be in bad faith that'll elicit anything.
There is simply a process to contact negotiations. Acars ain't going to do a thing

If we act in bad faith we ruin what little chance we have for a fair contract. If they act in bad faith they extend the proceedings by multiples of years. This enables them to pay us our future 'fair' rates with much of our own money ( do you get what I mean by this? )
Would you call the company's response to LOA 67 an honest step taken in "a process". Or would you call it intellectually dishonest? Because I would.
Honest processes only work when both parties operate in good faith. A person, or a party can be hard nosed and shrewd in business, yet still ethically bound. There is no possible way to interpret what just happened wrt to LOA 67 as good faith.

So not using our personal phone to do company business is a work action? Give you a break? How much are they paying you for your phone? And what flavor of koolaid do you drink?
Also, your advice to try and not be miserable is noted. How long have you been at F9 to drop that type of advice on those that have been through the ringer at this place? So we should just sit back and take the next 5 years sitting with our thumbs somewhere? You may want to choose your words better to those who are seeing their sacrifices (made before you got here) ignored. Have another glass of koolaid. Just what they want.
But thanks for the advice.

You're talking to a short-list candidate for our next Assistant Chief Pilot.

My point is that doing stuff like that isn't going to get us a good contract. Do you seriously think doing stuff like that makes any difference at all? I'm familiar with the process and history of recent airline contract negotiations. It's a long, painful process. You don't need to make your life more difficult in the meantime.
The railway labor act prevents us from doing anything that would put any real pressure on the company.
And no, they still haven't approached me about that ass chief job...
