I think more will be needed... FedEx ... ups.. The corporate market is heating up.. At my regional we are in big trouble.. Costing the company a year salary for a new fo every time they cancel a flight..

We are canceling dozens of flights a day.. It's just embarrassing.. We are shrinking and the promise of the flow to aag, really isn't attracting pilots.

Terrible..

Meanwhile all the fresh CFIs want to fly for Skywest Endeavor and compass Compass because they pay more or fly new equipment.

AAG is going to have to stop trying to get blood from the stone when it comes to pay and qol at the WOs for them to be sustainable over the long term.

So, there are maybe 20,000 pilots that could fill seats at the majors? If the big 3 hire 750/ year, and SWA hires 400/ year, that's 2650/ year. Add in the LCCs, which together make maybe 750/ year? So how about a grand total of 3500 pilots getting hired at the "majors" per year? And assuming there is roughly a current pool of 20,000 pilots, the majors shouldn't run out of pilots for at least 5 and a half years. Of course there are new pilots training all the time, and at least some new military pilots as well.

The way I see it, the majors should be able to hire without much trouble for 5 years. The regionals on the other hand are in big big trouble... which is good for all pilots, except the guys who want to be lifers at their current RJ gig. Anyone have a problem with my numbers?
There's actually only about 18,000 regional pilots. I think the true number of lifers is a lot more than 20%, plus a big percentage will have to stay behind to fly the big RJs, who's going to replace them if they leave for that major job? The numbers don't add up.

You also have to add in the pilots with violations, DUIs, etc. While this does not completely disqualify them, it does make the road more difficult in the current environment. I do believe that people deserve a second chance!

It's ignorant how we almost never talk about the tens of thousands of 135, 91, and foreign guys who will vie for these jobs as well... do we all think they just don't exist, or aren't qualified?

Another ignorance... do we all think we're smarter than management? Do we think they don't know this? They may be immoral thieves, but I'd bet on them over us on an IQ test.

Old news to the powers that be; economic forces have, and will prevail.

The good jobs in any industry in america will always go to a select few, not the masses. You (average pilot) won't be punching your ticket to United, Delta, American, anytime soon.

I'm a check airman with a degree. Not a peep and I've applied everywhere.

If airline management could find around 50000 of you, they'd be all set.

Wages (adjusted for inflation), haven't increased since the 1970's, yet productivity has increased nearly 250%, Executive wages have increased 3000%.... They don't need 50,000 of me, they've already got over 200 million (population 16 and over give or take a few million).
