Airline management & lobbyists want us to believe that so they can push to lower the 1500hr/ATP rule and also raise the retirement age to 67 or 70...

Management doesn't want 67 or 70. I've even heard many in management grumbling about age 65. Sick leave goes through the roof after about 62 1/2. Older pilots may want a higher age, but management does not.

Pilot shortage? Don't all of those pilot job fairs sell out on literally seconds... Back in the day nobody had to put on a suit, go spend $1000s just to talk to a recruiter for 5 mins

Perhaps not at the legacies. But the regionals and the 121 charter/supplementals would welcome the change. Especially after the 1500 hour reg came into play.

Sick leave? That is usually seniority driven, not age. Why do you think DAL tried to get the "doctor's note" provision in their last contract attempt?

Wow. Just wow.

Page 2 of this actuarial report says otherwise. http://www.healthcostinstitute.org/f...ve-Study_0.pdf

Where did you come up with such a preposterous idea?

He's one of this forum's biggest trolls. I wouldn't take him seriously.

"A couple years ago Delta started a little recruiting at job fairs. Their hiring manager said there were 2,000 "desirable" pilots at the regionals they were targeting. Those are likely gone by now. They are steadily lowering their standards the same as they did in the late '90s/early 2000's. There are a significant amount of regional pilots who will not move to the majors for various reasons."

In case you didn't know, I'm a "Tier 1" candidate and I'm kinda a "Big Fish" around here. Just saying.... My call is coming any day now.

Really? When why are some airlines having to cancel flights because they don't have enough pilots to fly them?

Normal supply and demand is not the same as a shortage.

At the far left end of pay spectrum, low-balling regionals are struggling to find the few people that will work for them. At the high pay carriers, pilots are paying for both job fair attendance and then fast passes to talk to the big guys.

For the sake of the profession, no pilot should ever say "pilot shortage" until Delta cancels a class due to lack of interest.

The laws of economics are still in effect, always. Supply, demand, cost, price, and elasticity are factors.

Is it shortage because we can't run 5 flights a day to Nowhere, Nebraska?
