Bloomberg-Pilot Shortage Keeps Majors Worried
A pilot shortage is already the bane of the often low-paying regional carriers that ferry passengers from smaller airports to hubs operated by American, Delta and other major airlines. That’s worrisome for the major carriers because they typically use the smaller operators as a pipeline for hiring.
“That is one of the things in my job I get to worry about every day and when I go to bed at night,” said Greg Muccio, a senior manager at Southwest Airlines Co. “The biggest problem is a general lack of interest in folks pursuing this as a career anymore. That’s what puts us in the most jeopardy.”

Pay more money Greg and you won't see a lack of interest. Problem solved.

The majority of those 12,000 resumes are duplicate apps the same 12,000 pilots amongst the big 3. Every bud I know who's gotten hired by a major in the past two years had apps out there with multiple companies. Unfortunately not all of them pull their apps.

Even the recruiters at job fairs are finally starting to realise guys are standing in multiple lines and will go to the first company that calls.

Lately I know two regional FOs that went overseas to fly in the UAE. I wonder how many other American regional FOs are looking there as an alternative to American airlines which still are hesitant to hire them.

Someone should explain to Greg that when he goes to bed at night, it should occur to him in those field of dreams that.....If you pay them, they will come!
Record profits, Greg. Record profits.
It's not rocket science.
