Have had a travelpro flight crew 2 for 10 years. You must put in skate wheels day one. I've replaced the handle twice. Been great and about 1/3 of the LW price (back then). Commuted for 7 and lived in base 3. My beef with the LW bags is that they destroy everything they touch including the inside of your car and the walls of your house.
Btw: nothing better than getting to an overhead and seeing some 26" behemoth laying sideways when the agent should've made them check it. If it doesn't go straight in its not a carry on.

I spent the extra money a decade ago and bought a Briggs and Riley roll aboard. These bags have a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty, no questions asked. I've lost a few zipper pulls, needed new skate wheels and bearings (those are covered too), and had the pull out handle replaced over the years, all for free. I don't commute, but I drag this bag through the wintery, salted streets of Chicago to get to the train. The bag is still going strong. If you're trying to save weight and have a tough/warrantied bag, look at Briggs.

I go out of way to tell people Need NOT to buy PNS LW bags. I my first one for 10 years. My second one fell apart within a year. Every zipper came off and the inside upper liner disintegrated. A true POS! I believe the original owners sold the company. What bothered me even more was the fact they NEVER returned emails or phone calls. Costco bag now. Works great!

I bought the TravelPro Crew Pilot version about 1.5 years ago. I previously used the LW product for many, many years. I like the TravelPro more. It's better designed inside and out pocket wise. Cost $150. Weighs significantly less, around 6 lbs less, empty over the LW. Keep in mind less mass means less inertia when the thing is thrown around too.
No, the TravelPro isn't built like the LW but it doesn't need to be. I don't find myself slinging it around like I did the LW product. I still have the LW, it's a backup bag for when the TP needs a new handle replaced under warranty (using it now actually) but I much prefer the TP.

Email customer service and tell them you are an airline employee. They will direct you to create an account and email a copy of your ID, and then they will send you a discount code for 20% off. I'm in the middle of that process right now. It makes the bag a little more reasonable.

My Purdy Neat is going on 18 years old. Been back to the factory twice for zippers, on it's third handle (the first two were the old design...the latest one has been on for 14 years), third set of wheels, and it's going to get it's forth kickplate here in a few weeks.

LW's bags suck

I have to second this opinion. I have an older 26 inch LW's bag which is great but my new 22 inch is an absolute POS. Never again. Additionally, the stop over store in DTW gave me a really bad time. They are dead to me also.

I've been looking at this one... It does have a hook for a smaller bag, but you have to take it out of the zipper compartment (it's attached to the inside of the bag so you won't lose it). I'll miss the side pockets from my LW.

For 20% off and a lifetime warranty, this seems to be the way to go. Please provide feedback of the bag once you've used it for a few trips. Thanks.
