Critical part of that equation missing, ticket price.

It also varies within some of the majors depending on which aircraft you are on. Plus, some offer premium economy, economy plus, etc. with more leg room.

The six words that airline passengers have never, do not now, and will never comprehend:

"You get what you pay for".

Another critical aspect of the seat comfort equation is the seat itself. The new Evolve seats that took the SWA 737-700s and -300s from 137 seats to 143 are very uncomfortable compared to the previous ones, which only makes sense since they seem to be much thinner.

Is that what happened? I had A-list status on SWA for years and then didn't fly them for a while. When I finally flew again with SWA I coul believe how much worse the new seat was.

Although nothing beats Cathay's utterly atrocious economy class seating on transPac flights. The seats literally don't recline. After just one HKG roundtrip (as a paying pax, not ID90), I swore I wouldn't fly them again until they changed the seats. Five years later I have still not set foot on a CX aircraft.

Yeah, that's what happened. Not only did they cram in an extra row but the seat cushions are wafer thin. Combine that with no assigned seating and I'm left hating DHing on us.
