No but a computer would have determined that trying to manipulate the ailerons was futile and would have adjusted both throttles without having Denny there - and probably more precisely. The "landing" spot would be the big question. And computers don't commit suicide; so there's the argument for a computer alone. If you think popular opinion and pop psychology can't drive changes look at the Colgan crash. Does having "ATP" on a license and 1500 hrs appreciably make the system any safer? The politicians seem to think so. The last human fighter pilot has likely already been born.

What about computer hacking?
Virtually every computer system on earth has been hacked. Remotely operated planes are way too much of a security risk. All we need is Russia or N Korea hacking our flights from the other side of the world. Until an AI system can be completely self contained, I'm not worried about losing my job

I think what's more interesting is how many of my peers would ever ride in the back of a pilotless aircraft. I know with my experiences that I never would. Ever. Joe and Joan Public, blissfully unaware, might do so.

Yeah, I wouldn't even ride those underground trains in ATL, until I found out they were secretly driven by a dwarf hidden beneath the front car.

And driverless Ubers are already plying the streets even as I type this right now.
You and I might not like it, but by the time he hits my age my 5 year old boy won't know any other reality...
Remember the elevator operator? Of course not. Our kids will be marveling at the fact that way way back there were actually human beings piloting aircraft...

Please read actually news articles and not the headlines. There are no Uber driveless vehicles on the roads. Be it Pittsburgh or anywhere else. All these "driveless" vehicles have two drivers in them!
Uber launches driverless car service in landmark US trial - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
We are decades away from pilotless air carriers.

But they're coming. And sooner than anyone really thinks. If we go decades before seeing pilotless air carriers I think I'll be pleasantly surprised.
