Can't We All...
...just get along?
I've been actively reading APC forums for quite some time now and have put off joining because I felt most others were already speaking for me.
Lately, however, I've had an increasing desire to respond to many posts so here I am.
My background:
- Graduate of a dreaded 250 hour "pilot mill"
- Currently employed as a CRJ F/O for Mesa *GASP!*
- Recently past 700 hrs TT
- Always dreamed of flying airplanes since the days of playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 5.0 on my 486 PC at 10 years old
I realize that the Mesa bullet may cause many of you to speedily begin the flaming the airline precipitates on this forum but save your energy for someone that cares. Let me say this - no, I'm not trying to undercut anyones jobs. Nor do I have a deep seeded plot to undermine the entire regional airline industry. I'm just a guy trying to get his time and get out like most other Mesa pilots. I'll probably make a lateral move, and it will probably be to SkyWest. I'm not trying to take food out of your kids mouths as so many of you would like to believe, and as hard as some of you may argue to prove me wrong, I really don't believe I, or any other Mesa pilot for that matter, is.
Lastly, I know I may dream of a utopia that can never be, but I just don't understand why pilots can't seem get along? I think strong unity amongst the pilot groups regardless of carriers would further our profession 100 fold. I have a deep respect for ANYONE that can earn all of their certificates and applaud them for obtaining something that very few have. Also almost every pilot you meet has followed a life-long dream to get to where they are. There should be something to be said about that as well. All too often, however, I find pilots putting other pilots down, or instantly blaming other pilots for accidents/incidents before any factual reports are released.
I have a deep respect for those who chose to earn their CFI certificates and bring others into the world of aviation that we all love, but I also think there is something to be said for someone that can complete an accelerated program, earn all of their certificates and pass a 121 check ride with low time as well. Each of these pilots is unique in how they acquired their credentials, but both have deservedly earned their right to operate the aircraft they chose, and should be congratulated for making it through the challenges associated with getting hired as an instructor or airline pilot. How's that for a run-on sentence.
Anyway, I just want to convey the deep respect I have for pilots and my love for aviation as I'm sure I will have my disagreements with some members of this forum (a few in specific).
I look forward to furthering our profession with all of you.
Fly safe!
