Default Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself….. (kpl923)

Hello all. I just stumbled across this forum while searching the web for answers to a few FAR questions. Looks like you guys have a good thing going here so I decided to join. The following is my intro, per site SOP.

I’m a senior at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, majoring in Aviation Management. I am also completing the Associates of Applied Science in Aviation Flight. I’m looking to commission into the Marine Corps following graduation (most likely Dec ’08) with a flight contract. I have my Commercial and Instrument Ratings; now working on CFI.

I would have to say aviation runs in my blood – my family has everything from airport managers to pilots to technicians. That, and my love of traveling, guided me to SIU and I’ve never looked back.

Although I have intended to enter the Corps for years, I am weighing some other options as well; if only as a contingency plan. The first of which is a position at an airfield in Ireland. My family operates an FBO outside of Dublin, and I’ll be holding a managerial-focused position with them from late May to mid August this summer. I have piloted internationally on a few occasions and can’t wait to further broaden my aviation experience (and get some flying in too!).

As for other options - I never envisioned myself in the cockpit of an airliner, but the idea is growing on me as I see my friends get hired up. I’m sure this site will be an invaluable research tool in that regard.

I profess having a bit of a floatplane fetish, and hope to log my first hours in one this summer. Other interests include: baseball (Cubs!!), guitar, camping/hiking/biking, woodworking (mostly modifying/refinishing guitars), boating, fishing, motorcycle touring, and shooting (mostly trap & skeet).

I look forward to learning from the collective experience of this group, and contribute where/when I can.

Cheers,

KPL

Welcome, and good luck. Going military is a great way to get some great flight time, make a living wage, and have some fun while you're young. Plenty of guys on here that can answer those questions as well as the other side of the aisle, too.

KPL,

Is the "Please allow me to introduce myself..." sung with a Mick Jagger flair?

Welcome.

The only problem with the military is you may wind up liking it and next thing you know 20 years has gone by! Happened to me. Started in the SH-60 and much later transitioned to the C-12 (King Air). Had a great time. The ceremony will be bitter sweet.

I wish you best.
